Many patients combine them, starting in the chair and maintaining at home.

Temporary sensitivity is the most common side effect and it is normal rather than a sign of damage. Peroxide opens the microscopic tubules in the tooth briefly, which is what makes cold air or cold drinks feel sharp for a day or two. It settles on its own. After that, normal habits are fine, but a few small changes extend the result considerably: rinse with water after staining drinks, use a straw for iced coffee, and keep up regular hygiene visits.

Realistically, results last somewhere between six months and two years depending on your diet and whether you smoke. Is whitening safe for enamel?
